We started off following some sheep

but soon found we were going the wrong way and took the path up the
hill

Kettlewell was looking a long way down

a short narrow stony climb took us to some less sloping ground, though
we continued to climb

I took quite a few pictures here while the others rested

It was pretty clear across the valley - all the way to Great Whernside

Once we were on top the view was restricted until we started to come
down on the other side and see Littondale

I sat down by a patch of heather and waited for the others who were
resting some way behind

and we began the walk down towards Arncliffe

We were on a path below the top, but couldn't see any way down through
the footpath gate to Park Scar

so walked along further along which gave us better views of Arncliffe
and Cowside Beck

some better views of Arncliffe

Arncliffe Church is well hidden in the trees

We sat on a seat looking at this cross to eat our sandwiches

and it began to rain

By the time we left the church to walk beside the River Skirfare it
was pouring down. But fortunately the

heavy shower didn't last too long. Across the fields we could see
some crags

and there was a path that wasn't very inviting

The river goes around a huge bend here

Eventually we came to a couple of houses across the river on the outskirts
of Hawkswick

and a footbridge across the river

and wlaked along an empty road to Hawkswick

Here a path and a long climb took us back up onto the fell

with some good views down and across Littondale

and back down to Hawkswick

Eventually we could see into Wharfedale too

and se the crags at Kilnsey

We got a little lost on the top of the fell, as there is no path where
it is marked on the OS map, but kept walking through rough long gass

and ventually came to the gate and path which leads down through a disused
quarry site towards Kettlewell.
