St Paul's Cathedral School gained planning permission on the site of the
former St Augustine’s, Watling Street destroyed in 1941 in the Blitz.
The tower by
Christopher Wren (1696) was left part standing, and was restored.. The spire
which had been completed by Nicholas Hawksmoor was destroyed but
was reconstructed in 1966. In the mniddleground is the New Change shopping
centre.Among the London buildings with silly names in the right hand picture
you can see the cheesegrater and the scalpel
