The former gravel pits at Staines Lammas are now a nature reserve

presumably becuase it is cheaper than filling them in properly

The lakes are dangerous - and the flowers are for teenager Leon Wilson
who drowned when

swimming here with friends in 2016. Signs warn against the dangers
of swimming but some ignore them.

A lifelbelt rests on the edge of some reeds in the lake

A tunnel takes the footpath under the Staines By-pass

but the field it leads to is flooded

and we decide against taking the path

but walk along another which runs beside the Staines Aqueduct which
brings water from the Thames to Staines Reservoirs

Duncroft is now flats. The early 18th century listed mansion was an
approved school for girls from 1948 to the late 1990s.
Jimmy Saville who stayed in a flat on the top floor was found to have
abused at least 23 girls there. The school finally closed in 1991.

The Bells looked welcoming but we didn't stop

Church St and at right the former Ashby Brewery tower

Church St crosses the River Colne

The listed house at centre right is on Clarence St and is being deliberately
let go to ruin

Behind Church St is Goring's Square where a butcher had a slaughterhouse.
It now leads to the side of the cinema in Two Rivers.
