The final visit will be to the Royal Festival Hall which will be featuring a major exhibition called `Celebration of India', which was originated by Aperture and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It spans 50 years (1947-1997) and includes the work of 21 photographers including Cartier-Bresson, Salgado and Sunil Janah. After seeing this exhibition we will meet and discuss what we have seen.

Fixing Ideas: Helen Brown & Julia Dogra-Brazell

Two LIP members who will discuss and show their work, its influences and directions. The two people's work is comparable only in that it is conceptually-based. Helen came to photography from sculpture. She says her work is not narrative oriented, her interests lie more in exploring textures, scale, surfaces, light, the passage of time and the abstract. She recently recorded the relics of her burnt out studio in a series of powerful abstract images.

Julia's work is narrative-based in an unusual way. Her influences have been from literature, philosophy, semiotics and poetry and she feels that making pictures can be compared with poetry. She now thinks of her work more as conceptual art than as photography.
